Save the date! On Saturday, December 16, I'm hosting the Poetry Society of Virginia's Across the Lines of Land & Language. Join us for this reading and conversation as this group of fabulous writers shares selections from their work and explores questions such as: What nuances in identity, class, gender, and language in the work of Black women writers are sometimes overlooked in mainstream cultural outlets? What forms and styles are most effective in exploring these nuances? How do different Black literatures think with and about one other? Scan the QR code to register for this Zoom event.
M y friend Jared Harel has a wonderful new poetry collection out: Let Our Bodies Change the Subject . I had the pleasure of speaking with him about this book, his approach to craft, and ways of turning our attention to the world in these challenging times. You can check out the interview at Green Linden Press 's Under a Warm Green Linden here . Many thanks to the fine folks at Green Linden for including us in Issue 16!
I'm grateful to have made the longlist for Alternating Current 's Electric Book Award . Congrats to all of those chosen and good luck for the next round!
I've got one of my favorite co-translations in this cool anthology. Nights at the Calcutta Café is a result of an enriching collaboration between poets from Calcutta, Montreal, and Norfolk, VA originally curated in memory of a beloved, erstwhile Indian restaurant near Columbia University. Cheers to my fellow writers and editors Peter Schulman and Somrita Urni Ganguly.
I'm headed to New York later this month. If you're in the area, please join me for an afternoon of artist-led events at Creature Conserve's Re-Imagining Conservation Exhibition on #GovernorsIsland , #NYC on Sun, May 21, 1-4pm. I hope to see you there!

This month I'm honored to have been included in Creature Conserve's Mentorship Spotlight , which focused on my work around Dragon Run on Virginia's Middle Peninsula. Their Mentorship Program has been a wonderful experience. With the guidance and support of the attentive leadership team and my thoughtful mentor, Ching-In Chen, I have been able to make significant progress on my series of eco-poems and accompanying soundscapes. Learn more about Creature Conserve's work to foster collaboration between artists and scientists and improve communication around the climate crisis here: https://creatureconserve.com .
